Valley clears area for development

VALLEY — The site of the former Resurrect Antiques building has been cleared, so now there’s a new site available for commercial development off Fob James Drive in Valley.

Mayor Leonard Riley told The Valley Times-News that the city is hoping to attract a new business to the site that will generate some significant revenue. The land is just under three acres in size and is bordered on one side by the King Auto Corner property and on the other by a substantial amount of land owned by the city.

The city owns close to 800 acres of land with the goal of developing it as an industrial park. Some land located behind the Lanier-Carter site was recently sold for the purpose of building a 400,000-square-foot distribution center. It’s a $20 million project that will create an estimated 55 new jobs. Scannell Properties purchased the land for approximately $350,000.

Those funds will be used in the development of the industrial park.

The city has been clearing lots of land in the past couple of years. Trees were cut and the land cleared
of stumps on a 400-acre site that was purchased from WestPoint Home entities.

The city later purchased adjacent land that’s around 400 acres in size to just about double the amount of land that’s available for an industrial park.

The Resurrect Antiques site is much smaller but is in a perfect location for commercial development. It’s in plain view of Exit 77 on I-85.
