Escaped inmate found in Columbus

An escaped inmate from Chambers County was found and arrested Thursday in Columbus, Georgia by U.S. Marshals, according to a news release from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas Jack Hart, 29, walked away from an inmate work detail near Chambers County Lake on Jan. 25. He was found by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force at a residence in Columbus.

According to the sheriff’s office, Hart will remain in Muscogee County to face pending charges. He will then be extradited back to Chambers County, where warrants have been obtained for escape 3rd degree and kidnapping 2nd degree.

Chambers County Major T.J. Wood said the kidnapping charges stem from allegedly forcing his mother to take him to Columbus, based on the mother’s report to police.

Hart was incarcerated in the Chambers County Jail on charges of failure to pay child support, theft of property 1st, failure to appear burglary 3rd, failure to appear theft of property 2nd and failure to appear receiving stolen property.
